[…] Four Ways To Extend Grace To Yourself […]
This is so lovely, Joy. That first one went straight to my heart. I’ve talked so much about respect and dignity for youth — for ALL youth — and just NOW made a valuable connection around that.
I typically say ‘youth’ rather than ‘children’ because I want to be inclusive of teenagers. Funny though, when I say youth, people rarely think I mean babies and children. I would love to find a way to refer to babies, children, and teenagers together in a way that encompasses all their ages and all their needs.
For years, people have asked me how I relate so well to kids — of every age. The simple answer is your second grace strategy — meet them where they are. I’ve said it exactly that way so many times. And it really is the key.
The essential thing here, the graceful reminder, is to turn all of that around, and offer it to myself, to the child within, the meet me where I am. Thank you for this, lovely lady.
