Visions of Flow

Hello, hello! I know a lot of you out there are doing the word of the year thing, so before we get too far into 2011, I thought I would share the vision board I created to go with my word (flow). Creating some sort of visual representation of your word is a really great way to continue exploring your word and inviting it into your life. In today's video, I talk a bit about how to approach this process, and I give you a detailed tour of my own board. Enjoy!

  1. Love your vision board for your word! My word is shine and it appears throughout my pieces of inspiration, both my vision board binder, my little inspirational mini vision board that I keep in my office and then of course, I have beautifully written the word shine inside of a sun on my chalkboard wall in my office.

I just love your word, and I love the idea of having the inspiration all over the place. I definitely want to think about how I can add some FLOW reminders to other areas of my home and life. Thanks, baby!

  2. How creative!! I love how you made specific shapes out of the pictures!

I am in the process of creating my board around the word “AWE” and I have a feeling that it will be a work in progress over the year. I have a second word that is coming to me, as well: luminesce (or glow).

I hope to get my blog post about my word(s) up very soon…my father’s death, which in and of itself created a lot of awe so far(!!), put a few things on hold. But I am getting back into the swing of things…and I wanted to thank you, Joy, for your incredibly thoughtful comment on my blog.

Honey, I CANNOT wait to read what you’ll be sharing on your blog. I have thought about you so much and I am in AWE of you and what has happened in your life.

I’m intrigued by your second word — what a beautiful sound and meaning it has. Can’t wait to hear more!

      Love to you!

  3. Joy, what beautiful and breathtaking images! I was totally feeling at peace watching the video. :) Thank you for sharing it with us, because I know that at least for me, I tend to get caught up in wanting something to look perfect, and in scouring magazines for hours. But I love the idea of just taking it easy and picking out what speaks to me, even if I don’t know exactly why (like your angel wings). There’s no pressure, just a fun and freeing activity I can do on my own. This is so inspiring. Thank you!

Yeah! I’m glad that’s the message you took from this, because that’s exactly what I want to get across — just have fun with it and let it be whatever it turns out to be!

Hey, Joy, I just found my old vision board from years ago. I am still waiting for a few of the “impossible ” things to happen or come to me—and one thing I decided I no longer wanted but found something better that would achieve the same thing. So I guess I will see what comes with my word, “fearless”—–maybe someone jumping out of a plane or twirling fire batons or something like that. I have overcome lots of fears but there are those core ones that life situations usually dig out of us that we really don’t want to mess with—-those are the ones I think are coming this year. I do want to face them all and maybe a vision board would be a great support tool. This vision board. I have a feeling, will be a lot different from the last one.

  5. I think my word is going to be “SAVOR”. I’m still working out what that means.

  6. Beautiful vision board for a beautiful word, Joy! I’m excited to hear about how ‘flow’ manifests in your life throughout the year!
I’ve been really drawn to water images for my vision board, too. Water is such a powerful element, and it holds so much spiritual and emotional significance for people and cultures all over the world. I love this universally unifying quality, don’t you?

    • avatar Joy Tanksley says:

Thanks, honey! And totally YES about the water. One of my closest friends has actually chosen the word “water” for 2011, which I think is way cool. So much to explore with that word, you know? I’m reading Jill Bolte Taylor’s “My Stroke of Insight” right now (so good) and she was just talking about the fact that we ARE water (for the most part) and that really struck me. Water really is so elemental and universal!

  7. Joy, this is my first time on your blog. I found you via a copyblogger article. I love your story. I too have always been aware of my body image and am in the public school system. It’s a tough job. I like your idea of your board. My word of the year is CREATE. I may be borrowing your idea of a board to make one of my own with images of the things I create this year. Thanks so much!!

Hey Angel! Thank you so much for coming over! Mmmm.… “create” is an awesome word. If you decide to make a board, or explore your word in some other ways, I’d love to hear about it!

  8. avatar Melissa Anderson says:

Thanks for sharing with us– I totally feel the flow! I love that the raindrops also represent tears and allowing your emotions to flow. Really beautiful.

    • avatar Joy Tanksley says:

Thanks, sweetheart. I’ve been crying a lot lately, and it kind of cracks me up when I look at my board. Sometimes I wonder if I really should have invited that into my life so openly… but I know it’s good. :)

  9. avatar Joan Rowlands says:

    Hi Joy
what a wonderful idea — and I also like Christies idea with the mini boards. My word for the year is Joy (and it appears that Release is a secondary word). In my journal I’ve roughed out a calendar and every couple days I write something that made me joyful that day. Once a week I post it on Facebook, as part of my word was sharing joy with others. I’m finding this exercise really great — it’s nice to look back at a week and see what brought me happiness. I’m amazed at how often it has been something very simple that I would have overlooked otherwise.

Your Monday spark this week was fabbo too. I’m learning that my journals are for me — a place to practice, make mistakes, rant and rave, to be who I am and discover who I’m becoming. A place to squash flat that little imp who likes to criticise. A place to let my inner Goddess shine, to become confident enough to be her all the time. : )

    • avatar Joy Tanksley says:

Oh, honey, YES! I love this. I love your idea of sharing your joy once a week on FB. And your thoughts on journaling? YOU NAILED IT. Thanks for adding this beautiful comment. XXOO!
