Dance-y Feet

When I was a little girl, I would often get in trouble for tapping my feet and making too much noise during church. One time, when my mom asked me to stop tapping, I responded by saying, "But my feet feel so dance-y!" Many years later, my feet still wanna dance. How about you? Are your feet feeling dance-y? Well, I hope so because I have an invitation for you!

Remember the opening credits of Footloose? You know, all the little clips of people dancing where the camera is positioned on the feet? I just love that! I think it's the diversity I love the most - all the different styles of shoes, socks, pants, tights, and all the different ways of dancing. AWESOME.

So... I want to make my own little Footloose-inspired "dance-y feet video" to post right here on Being Joy. But I need your help, because I want this to be a community project. Are you in?

All you have to do is record your dancing feet. No fancy equipment is required. You can use the webcam on your computer or the video feature on your digital camera or cell phone. Keep it short (or else the file will be way too big for email) - about  10 seconds of footage will give me plenty to work with. And be creative! Let your essential self shine through your tootsies. Wear your favorite pair of shoes or socks, paint your toenails a crazy color, or go barefoot if that suits you best. Dance by yourself or with someone else. Heck, let your dog dance with you! You can also be creative with where you dance. In the grass? On your bed? Totally up to you! Just remember to only film your feet. And most importantly, have fun! Don't over-think this or worry about sending me a perfect product. You know that's not how I roll.

You have until the end of the month - January 31st - to send your footage. And if you have any questions at all, technical or otherwise, please don't hesitate to ask! I really hope you'll be a part of this. I want as many lovely lower extremities in the finished product as possible!

Remember - send your footage (about 10 seconds of your dancing feet) to joytanksley@gmail.com by January 31st!

Good question. I’ll lay one track over the whole thing when I edit — I’m thinking I’m gonna use “Boogie Shoes.” Whatever music you wanna use to get you moving is fine. I can work my editing magic! ;)

SO GLAD you’re joining the fun!

Joy, I had to laugh here.
I got in trouble at church for tapping too!
I’d be bored outta my mind and would practice my tap-dancing routines from dancing school. My father would get all red-faced from the end of the pew and give me the look that said “Cut it out or I am taking you outside.” Believe me, you did not want to go outside with my dad. He wouldn’t speak or hit or anything like that. He would silently seethe — that was WAY worse than anything else (my brothers and sister can attest to that).
I love this idea. I’m in!
