I seem to be having a lot of instances lately where I have to pause for a moment, pick my jaw up off the floor, and exclaim, "Wow. I'm living my dreams!" In honor of that, I wanted to post a selection of inspirational quotations on the power of dreaming. The cool thing is that there is no shortage of great dream quotes. And it seems that all the really good ones come for super successful people who lived (or are living) abundant, meaningful lives. If someone tells you that dreams are for fools, there's a pretty good chance that person is unhappy or unsuccessful or both. Coincidence? I don't think so. So dream on, lovelies! Dream on!
1. "Hold fast to dreams, for if dreams die, life is a broken winged bird that cannot fly." - Langston Hughes
2. "The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams." - Eleanor Roosevelt
3. “You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.” - C.S. Lewis
4. “Whatever you do, or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius and power and magic in it.” - Goethe
5. “Do not lose hold of your dreams or asprirations. For if you do, you may still exist but you have ceased to live.” - Henry David Thoreau
6. "All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them." - Walt Disney
7. "So many of our dreams at first seem impossible, then they seem improbable, and then, when we summon the will, they soon become inevitable." - Christopher Reeve
8. "Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world." - Harriet Tubman
9. "The inability to open up to hope is what blocks trust, and blocked trust is the reason for blighted dreams." - Elizabeth Gilbert
10. "Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." - Mark Twain

These are great, Joy! I’m liking not only the quotes, but the men and women that said them. These are strong people–strong of heart. Folks who accomplished much against all odds.
I agree! I carefully selected which dreamers to quote. I love looking over that list of names!
I, too, am living my dream. It took me a long time to get into the art center (20 years) but I finally got in at 54 and have been there nearly 10 years. As I look back, I realize I wouldn’t have been prepared to enjoy or fulfill the dream as I have been doing had I gotten in when I first applied. So many things had to happen to prepare me for living my dream. What a blessing that you got on the “fast track” and are prepared to do what you came here to do, Joy. That blows me away——I am SUCH a late bloomer. But I do really understand the folks who bat around in the dark ( that rich medium) for years and years. It is a good thing I am really healthy and think I am only 20 , because I really do want to keep growing and taking people along with me. I am a leader for the strugglers , someone who teaches people to never give up (You can take breaks, though). I even teach that in my painting classes.
Hey Jean! I don’t know if I see myself as on the “fast track”. Oh, I guess it’s all relative. At any rate, I don’t think it’s ever too early, or too late to seize the day. And now that I’m living so many things I dreamed of living, it just means it’s time to dream some new dreams. I’m certainly not done!
I think it’s funny that you see yourself as a late bloomer. The way I see it, most people never bloom at all, so late or early doesn’t matter! Whether you start courageously pursuing your dreams at age 16, age 30, or age 80, you’re still way ahead of the pack!
I was eating at a dive at the lake last night, and then waitress sees my notebook and starts up a conversation. Seems she is totally enthralled with Laura Ingalls Wilder (Little House on the Prairie), and has been for years. She told me that this gal didn’t start writing her story until she was 62. Jean–At 47, I’m thinking perhaps I’m right on time!
Hey, Susan;
I am thinking that you are exactly right on time. Life has a way of getting us ready for things—we think we are failing at something or wasting our time trying things that don’t work—-but it is all the underpainting for our masterpieces, our lives. I actually saw a relatively isolated and very private woman open up her life to several people in the few months she had left before dying. She did a whole lot of work at the last minute.….but she DID it. This woman who never really shared her inner self with anyone that I know of, at the end, gave her journal to a young woman she saw walking down the same path of isolation and loneliness . The young woman said she decided NOT to continue living the same way but decided to make an effort to be more out-going and make friends. This was a wonderful gift the older woman gave to the younger woman who is now married and has several children. So we are, seemingly, all on time. I guess we are not in a position to judge ourselves or anyone else because none of us can see the whole picture.
At 47, you might even be a little ahead of time! :>
Cool story, Jean. Amen and amen!
