“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond
measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

Joy,
This quote by Marianne Williamson is one of my favorites. We are ALL brilliant, fabulous, gorgeous in our own way — and when we see that — WOW!! What a great place to be!
Joy, your light shines beautifully bright from YOU!!!!

You’re shining pretty bright, too, my man!
I’m sorry to differ, but I think Marianne Williamson’s quote is nonsense! Maybe we want to believe we are all gorgeous, brilliant, and fabulous but it simply isn’t true! Yes, we all have intrinsic value because we are made in the image of God–but that doesn’t make us some incredible creature. Perhaps a little humility along with respect for who we are is needed.
Why are you “sorry to differ”? No need to apologize for your opinion. I’m certainly not sorry about mine!
No matter how many times I have read this quote, it is still so profoundly powerful and moving. Amazing.
Shine, shine, shine.
It never gets old, does it?
I love this quote! You know when I was younger I used to be afraid or be uncomfortable taking on tasks that I thought were beyond me. I used to think the very same thing, “Who am I to lead people?” “Who am I do walk tall, with my head held high and my shoulders back.” “Who am I to dress for success even if others around me are dressing for less?” But now that I’m older, my answer to these rebuttals are like yours. Why Not??? Why not endeavor to go where no man has gone before? Why not spread your wings and fly? I do deserve to do greater things in life. I owe it to myself!!!

Jarrod, I just loved hearing your personal experience with learning to shine your light fearlessly! ROCK ON!
Love reading this no matter how much time has passed in between. I might just have to add this to the inspirational “door” in my kitchen. Collected inspiring things and tape them up there so I can see them every day. Swap them out once in a while, but this one is definitely a keeper up there!
A keeper for sure!
This quote and Teddy Roosevelt’s about The Man in the Arena are huge for me.
A few years back I wrote something and shared it with family members. My father looked at it and said “Who the hell do you think you are?” He thought I was way out of line trying to write anything for anybody.

Your dad’s comment is so interesting. One of the main limiting beliefs I hear in my own brain (and from the women I coach) is that voice saying, “How dare you? Who do you think you are?”
I’m glad you’re writing and shining despite those messages!
